Our Story
Clayton Lank of Quoddy Mist brings the time honored tradition of salt-making back to the port town of Lubec, Maine, "the eastern most town in the United States."

Quoddy Mist produces an all natural high quality sea salt in a variety of grades, crystal sizes and flavors of sea salt. Our facility located in Lubec, Maine accesses seawater daily from the Bay of Fundy, which has the greatest tidal range in the world (over 50 feet near the head of the bay) providing Quoddy Mist with a nutrient rich and unique natural resource which is the key to its distinctive flavor and texture.
Maine's Sea Salt History
The coast of Maine has long been associated with the cold and pristine crashing surf that is home to Quoddy Mist. During the 1800's Downeast Maine was home to the richest fishing grounds in North America. Salt was used to preserve these valuable catches and correspondingly several coastal saltworks operations flourished in Washington County Maine during that period.
Artisan Sea Salts and Sea Vegetables
Quoddy Mist also taps into the centuries-old traditional Irish and Native American cooking heritage of using sea vegetables. Harvested by hand from small boats in the traditional way, these sea vegetables grow sustainably in tidal areas of the North Atlantic, these plants are full of naturally occurring minerals that give each their unique taste of the sea.
Quoddy Mist brings sea vegetables to your table as part of seven tempting, nutritious salt blends. We carefully select only the best and freshest plants combine them in dried flake with our Quoddy Mist original sea salt. All Sea Vegetables used in our products are Organic Certified harvested by Maine Coast Sea Vegetables.
